Free Apps Roundup for December 2nd, 2011

This week on the Free Apps Roundup: Do you like games? I hope so, because there are a couple of great games to be playing this week. They’re called Zen Pinball and Battle Bears Royale, and they’re going to take your free time from you. Google has a great app for finding more stuff to buy, and it’s just the perfect time of year for that, isn’t it? And as always, there are a bunch of limited time freebies.

  • TED - Now you can enjoy TED not just on iPad, but on iPhone, too! What is TED you say? It’s only the place to find the most riveting talks by the most remarkable people for free. From tech geniuses to music legends to medical magic, TED has everything. One thing is certain, you’ll learn something and walk away wanting to tell others. Enjoy.
  • Zen Pinball - How could you not be entertained by the most advanced pinball physics, interactive 3D models, amazing graphics and rich social features of Zen Pinball? This comes from the guys who made Marvel Pinball and Pinball FX2. They’ve ported Zen Pinball to iOS and it’s sure to steal your free time away from you on iPad or iPhone. They’re so sure you’ll like the game that they’re giving away the Sorcerer’s Lair table sans attached strings. Inside the app you can pick up Marvel Pinball tables and more with an ever growing selection of available tables. Seriously, you’re going to love this so just get it over with now by downloading it now.
  • Battle Bears Royale - It’s no secret that I’m a fan of Battle Bears games. They’re a little bit weird, a lot bit awesome, and just fun. Royale is a team multiplayer shooter. You can do up to an 8 player game (4 on 4) over 3G or WiFi. There are five character classes, four multi-level maps and a plethora of powerful, yet hilarious, weapons at your disposal. Download now unless you hate fun.
  • Google Catalogs - It’s that time of year, the season of buying! Can you think of anything you need on your iPad more than another method of finding things to buy? Doubtful. As such, Google has taken it upon themselves to aggregate all of your favorite product catalogs in one shiny app for you to drool on. In addition to the standard catalog, there can be additional photos and videos, easy purchasing and more. If you don’t already have your credit card number memorized, you’re about to.
  • Power Pool HD - Free through December 4th only. This game is all about pool, but not normal pool. Okay, there’s normal pool, too, but the fun part is the 30 challenging levels of exploding, multiplying and other craziness. If you like pool, you’re going to like this.
  • Measure the World - Sadly, this app will not let you measure the world. Unless you’re in outer space, in which case, you’re awesome and probably already know that the world is roughly 12,735 km in diameter. No, what this app does is allows you to measure objects by taking two pictures of said object. It uses the gyroscope and MEMS sensor on your iPhone 4 or 4S to calculate a measurement. Is it accurate? Maybe not right now thanks to a known bug, but the patch is on its way and you can get it now before they ask for money again. This could definitely be a fun app to play with and maybe even a useful tool with coming updates.
  • Uniconsole - Need an impossible to type symbol on your iOS device? Chances are pretty good that Uniconsole has it. This app’s sole purpose it to make it easy to find and copy symbols to be sent to other iOS devices, Macs and some PCs. You can even tweet right from the app, which is why the app is free until December 5th. Here’s a quick tip: if you find yourself typing the same symbol over and over, make it into a system wide shortcut in Settings.app. You’re friends will never know how you typed interrobang.
  • Photographer’s Rights - Ever wonder if it’s legal to take a picture? There’s an app for that. Photographer’s Rights helps educate you on when it’s okay to take a picture in the US, Australia, Canada, UK, Japan, Spain, Italy and France. It has legal rights, copyright laws, contracts (even translated to supported country list languages) and common photography related questions with translations. It’s really a must have for the photographers among us. Free for a limited time.
  • CSMania Reloaded - Put your gyroscope to good use by shooting clay! With six weapons, three game types and two maps, you’ll be shooting stuff for at least a minute or two. It has retina display support, GameCenter leader boards and even online multiplayer. It’s a simple game with nice graphics that’s just fun to play. More content is coming, so download it now before they start charging again.
