Things You Should Know Before Upgrading to iOS 5

As iOS 5, the most advanced mobile operating system is released, users are looking to upgrade their device' firmware to iOS 5. Users who keep official firmware and don't like to jailbreak their devices can upgrade without any hesitation but what about folks who don't even like to use their device without all those tweaks? Well here are some things to keep in mind before you go for the update:

ios 5 jailbreak

There is no untethered jailbreak released for iOS 5 yet. Though tethered iOS 5 jailbreak for all iOS devices except the iPad 2 is available but Cydia/MobileSubstrate and the tweaks that use MobileSubstrate still have some moderate bugs. In case you don't know, tethered jailrbeak is a kind of jailrbeak in which you have to tether your device with your computer everytime you reboot your device. In simple words, if you reboot your device, it won't boot until you connect it with a computer having necessary jailbreaking tools. On the other hand, untethered jailbreak is inverse of tethered jailbreak, means you have your device jailbroken for life. So untethered jailbreak is recommended.

iOS 5 comes with new baseband, means that iPad 2 GSM/CDMA users if once perform any kind of restore, and if apple is no longer signing that firmware, they will get stuck in recovery with no way of getting out. This is because there is no public bootrom exploit for iPad 2. So be cautious about it or you will lose your device.

If your iPhone rely on unlock, don't update iOS 5 with stock firmware via iTunes as it will upgrade the baseband of your device. Instead cook a custom firmware using Redsn0w or Snowbreeze as they will preserve the baseband and then restore to iOS 5. Once you do this, you can unlock iOS 5 using ultrasn0w 1.2.4

iPhone-dev team and other jailbreaking communities are currently working to bring untethered jailbreak for iOS 5. So be patient, don't mess up with your device and stay happy :) If you need any type of assistance, drop your comment in the comments section below.

Siri Soon Coming to iPad 2 [

We all know about this amazing new feature from Apple called 'Siri' which is officially exclusive to iPhone 4S. What is Siri? you may ask. Siri is a new feature that lets you use your voice to send messages, schedule meetings, place phone calls, and more. Ask Siri to do things just by talking the way you talk. Siri understands what you say, knows what you mean, and even talks back. Siri is so easy to use and does so much, you’ll keep finding more and more ways to use it.

This feature is officially exclusive to iPhone 4S only but developers are trying to port Siri on older devices like iPhone 4 and iPad 2. Yesterday, a 9to5Mac developer successfully ported siri to iPhone 4. Watch the video below

I just hope Apple pushes out siri to devices like iPhone 4 and iPad 2 officially in the next iOS 5.1 firmware update. But if not, I'm sure developers and jailbreaking communities will surely port siri to these devices unofficially.

Update on iOS 5 Untethered Jailbreak

Here is a good news and a hope for all the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users who are waiting for untethered jailbreak on iOS 5. A member of  chronic dev-team, Pod2g has announced viaTwitter that he has found a bug in iOS 5 that can bring untethered jailbreak on iOS 5.

No ETA has given by Pod2g but iOS 5 untethered jailbreak seems imminent now. Most probably it will a userland jailbreak that will jailbreak all iOS devices including the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S but we can't say nothing at the moment as Pod2g hasn't mentioned anything about the bug or exploit which will be used. However we can just hope for the best and wait till chronic dev team comes up with really good news for us.

Not Just A Personal Assistant, Siri Is The Perfect Companion

We all know that Siri is most special feature of the latest iPhone 4s of Apple. Everyone is still thinking and talking about Siri. Even that Apple bought Siri from its original owners on a deal of $200 million. The reason of this acquisition was due to the benefits Siri has provided to iPhone 4s. Even that its demand has been increasing without any delay as far its assistance is needed. It requires any iPhone 4s proximity sensor when ever the handset’s screen is activated.

In the past people have many problems with respect to the flips on the sensors when ever they are in any conversation, phone call or any skype communication. Here the benefit of iPhone 4s is that it runs on the infrared detectors when ever the screen of the iPhone is turned on. With the help of Siri you can also know how close your face is with the handset when you are about to say something or you have pressed the handset up against your face.
For more information you can all see different videos of Siri’s benefits on youtube, twitter or any other channels. So these are the reasons of why Siri is important for iPhone 4s and why it is so high in demand.

How To: Easily Remove (some) Apple App Icons

I see and hear complaints all the time of people wanting to remove pre-installed applications from Apple off of their iPhone or iPod Touch.  Everybody knows by now that to remove an app installed from the App Store simply touch and hold the app icon until all the icons jiggle.  Once the icons start to jiggle the non-Apple apps will have a black “X” badge in the corner of them.  Touch there to remove that app from your device.  But what if you want an Apple app removed?  There is no black “X” badge that appears for Apple apps, so that doesn’t work. removeappleappicons1 200x300 How To: Easily Remove (some) Apple App Icons

With the introduction of iPhone OS 3.0 Apple added Parental Controls called “Restrictions.”  Using the Restrictions function you can block access to all sorts of content on the device – including a few applications.  While not a surefire way to remove all of the Apple icons from the springboard, you can use Restrictions to block access (ie: remove) to a few of the Apple installed applications such as Safari, YouTube, Camera, iTunes and App Store.  You’re still stuck with the other Apple apps such as Notes, Calendar, Weather, Stocks, Mail, etc.  But for these few applications turning them off and hiding their icons is easy.

To use Restrictions to hide the icons of these apps you must first enable it in the Settings app. Navigate to Settings, select Restrictions,  enable Restrictions, and enter a passcode.  Now you can easily turn off the apps that you don’t want showing up anymore.  That’s it! You’re done!
